Doves in Biographic

February 2012

A lot of incredible music has emerged from my home town of Manchester over the years – and a big chunk of it has been created by Doves. To coincide with their last tour of the United States, in 2009, I featured them in my weekly syndicated comic strip BIOGRAPHIC. Recently, it was posted on the band’s Facebook page and a couple of people have asked how they could get to see a higher res version. So, for Doves fans everywhere, here’s an 18 inch wide version of the comic strip for fans to download. Click on the image to enlarge and feel free to download and share … but, obviously, no commercial usage allowed!!! … and don’t forget to LIKE my Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/stevemcgarrycartoons

My twin sons, Joe and Luke, have an indie band called Pop Noir. They’ve had some nice successes – their debut single hit Top 5 on the FMQB indie charts and the video was in rotation on mtvU for a couple of months, and they’ve supported The Wombats, Robyn, Sebastien Tellier and Iglu & Hartly, as well as headlining hundreds of shows throughout California. I got a huge kick out of seeing them support Doves on the California dates of the 2009 tour, playing sold out shows in San Diego and Anaheim. The Anaheim date, at the House of Blues, coincided with the anniversary of Rob Gretton’s death, and Pop Noir covered New Order’s “Temptation” in tribute. I have to admit, that was quite an emotional moment and the manly McGarry lip quivered a little.

Pop Noir with DovesThe flyer for the San Diego show used my artwork, which was also a nice gesture by the lads … so here’s a high-res version for anyone that would like a copy:
